Live music with 'Caribou', good weather, and meeting fellow residents outside on the lawn, for some socialising, volleyball, and yes, a couple of drinks. Another great night in 'The Mond' for O-week with people breaking out of their shells and making new friends.

What exactly is an 'Alphabet Hop'? Well, it's simple really, you come dressed as something or someone that starts with the same letter as your first name. A big shout out to Nick Bates who came as a Ninja (thankfully no ninja moves were attempted throughout the evening)

A rite of passage for Otago Students, or just a weird excuse to wear only a sheet to a party? Anyway, toga went off again this year, and staff handed out safety pins from the office, 'so we had you covered'! Buses took residents to the event, and Nick and Rachael did van trips to get everyone back safely to 'The Mond'.

'The Mond' started the year with our annual 'Baldwin Street Gutbuster', not too many suffered the pain of trying to run up the world's steepest street, most preferred to view the craziness that is attempting to run up this mammoth, as always, the winners were awarded their first Salmond merch of the year, and spot prizes were up for grabs.

Salmond is pleased to welcome of Rachael Carson to the new position Deputy Head – Pastoral and Wellbeing. We look forward to Rachael joining us at Salmond, bringing her experience, enthusiasm and excellent pastoral skills. Rachael has worked at Studholme College for the past six years and has made a huge impact not only at Studholme, but across the Otago Collegiate Network. Rachael, and her loyal border collie Maverick, will make the move to Salmond in January 2024.
As a result of the staffing changes at Salmond, longstanding Deputy Head Richard Hewitt will move to the role, Deputy Head – Academic and Programmes, working alongside Rachael, myself and the Salmond team.
